We took a trip to Shaver Lake to introduce the baby to the snow today. Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

Photos: Daytime Moon
I got home from work the other day and the moon was already showing, with sunset a good hour away. I grabbed the bigger lens and tried to grab a couple shots from the backyard. I’m pretty happy with how these came out. As always, click the picture for the full size.
The baby’s first trip to Woodward Park
We took the baby out to Woodward Park for the first time yesterday. We wanted to take advantage of the unseasonably warm 70º we had.
Boiling Water
I was boiling water for the baby’s bottles tonight and decided to snap a few shots. Click on the photo for the full size.
Top 6 “Best of 2015” Lists of 2015
When I first thought of doing this post, I intended it to be a joke. Everyone has their “Top 10 List of Things of 2015” so I meant for it to be a joke. Over the last few days I’ve seen some pretty good lists out there. Obviously all of them are someone’s opinion just like this one is. So take it for what it’s worth and enjoy!
In no particular order, I present:
- Sports – “The Best Goals of 2015” by Deadspin
- I’m not a huge soccer fan, but you can’t deny the skill involved in scoring a nice goal. And if you are in the US, you will love the first goal in this video montage, the near midfield shot by Carli Lloyd during the Women’s World Cup Final

- TV – “The 10 Best TV Shows of 2015” by Alex Zalben
- I haven’t seen all of the shows on this list, but I have heard good things about all of them. The stuff I have seen I can’t disagree with. “Supergirl” is turning into one of my favorite shows and “Jessica Jones” was good enough that we powered through the entire first season in less than a week.

- Science – “9 Devastating Volcanic Eruptions Of 2015” by Forbes
- Volcanoes are one of those fun things to see from a distance. This includes photos from some of the best eruptions of the year.

- Science – “Top 15 Space Station Earth Images of 2015”

- The World – “15 Times Politicians Did the Right Thing in 2015” by Parker Molloy
- I thought this was an interesting post. The opening line is “You may not always agree with these politicians, but let’s give credit where credit is due.”

- Cats – “23 Cats Who Won 2015” by Chelsea Marshall

In honor of Ralph Horio Sr.
My grandfather passed away this past weekend at the age of 93. I just wanted to post a few things. If you knew him, and want to post your thoughts, please use the comments or visit the obituary page at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/mercurynews/obituary.aspx?n=ralph-horio&pid=171515743&fhid=11360.
I remember spending the summer with my grandparents as a kid, and going to see the Giants at Candlestick Park. This was back in the Will Clark days. I remember sitting along the first base line. I don’t know who they were playing or who won, but I remember having a blast going with my grandpa. I still have a team set of baseball cards that he bought me at the team store.
A couple years ago, I spent some time with my grandpa talking about his history. We spent some time talking about his time in the Japanese internment camp during World War II. It was something he didn’t really like to talk about, but we did have some discussion. It was nice to hear about neighbors who helped keep the family property while they were gone. It’s nice to hear positive stories like this.
At the time I was doing some research into family history, so he helped me with lots of names and who was related to who. I’ll need to keep updating that family history over at http://www.jaimeh.com/family-history/horio-matsumoto/
Since my grandfather spent many years as a professional photographer, I wanted to share a few pictures of him and our family.
Vacation time!
After a much needed vacation, it’s time to get to posting some pictures from our recent trip! The trip was great with lots of waterfalls:
The Earth fortunately deciding not to eat Erin alive:
And I may or may not have become king of a lava kingdom:
Watch for more photos to get posted over the next couple of weeks! We did lots of hiking at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Waimea Canyon and the Napali Coast. And that means lots of pictures!
Reindeer Kitties!
We went shopping and found a nice little reindeer hat for the kitties!
